Materiality of the Breath

With this project, I want to materialise moments during the day. I am interested in the process involved in the repetitive actions and tensions that arise while making these bubble like porcelain vessels. Because the forms are built thin and kept quite wet, the joining of the two pinched parts remains rather unpredictable. With each object, I am taking the time to engage in a dialog with the clay and accept the risk that the form collapses, breaks or cracks. While wanting them to be whole, I intend on leaving space for the clay to balance between resistance and tolerance in response to my actions.

The performance is set in the forest. The landscape composition is an attempt to further materialise time through the action of breathing. At first sight, the image is a literal representation of a meditative state, where the breath is the center of attention. But in the duration, the numerous and subtle distractions allow for the mind to wander, embracing the potential for failure.
